Happy New Year 2019! Our lawn ended up getting over watered and soppy due to the K-Rain sprinkler system that came with our new house.
The rain sensor attached to it wasn’t working and would water the lawn regardless if it rained or not according to the schedule. Plus it would water the lawn before a heavy shower of rain. Caused our new grass to become kind a brown…leave it to us to kill grass 🙁
For Christmas Skyla got JT a Rachio 3 Smart Sprinkler Controller
It’s pretty cool so far. It uses wifi and weather forecasts to dynamically adjust the watering schedule. It also waters each zone of our yard depending on each zone’s amount of sun exposure, soil type and slope.
Now each zone gets watered only when needed and if it doesn’t rain. The weather prediction it uses Weather Intelligence™ Plus is even more accurate than the Florida news radar predictions lol
It was able to fit inside the box for our K-rain sprinkler so we were able to re-wire it with minimum chaos and connect it to the old sprinkler’s power supply. It even has input for the rain sensor which we ended up fixing during the install. Apparently it was wired incorrectly. It can be used as an extra data point to determine if to water or not but mostly decides based on the weather. The Android app is really easy to use and setup. Has tons of info and data tracking and settings available.
No more overwatering and the lawn is starting to recover nicely 🙂
Highly recommend for using especially in FL where you can literally walk from sunshine to a downpour. Never thought I’d care but it is quite fascination to use technology to be able to make the lawn grow.
